ELECOM CO., LTD. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, Japan; President: Junji Hada) is launching, in the middle of April, a new line of Hi-Res (high resolution) headphone adapters for smartphones not compatible with Hi-Res audio, equipped with a high performance digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and that can deliver Hi-res audio without losing its quality.
Hi-Res audio far exceeds the fidelity found in compact discs and is a file format that reproduces the finest details in a piece of audio, offering you an experience with immersive and realistic sounds. Recently there are some smartphones made to support Hi-Res audio, but the majority of listeners are still compromising on the quality with non-compatible ones. This is where these new headphone adapters come in to help you enjoy Hi-Res audio via USB OTG (On-The-Go) smartphones, with no compromises. Use this product in combination with Hi-Res headphones and an application that plays Hi-Res to enjoy high quality Hi-Res audio even with non-Hi-Res smartphones. (*)
The EHP-AHR192 series is a Hi-Res adapter you can use with your headphones while the EHP-CHR192 series is a set of adapter and Hi-Res stereo headphones. Both series are available in gold and silver and the adapter and the headphones in the EHP-CHR192 series come in the same color.
The adapter is equipped with a high-performance DAC (AK4430ET model by Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation), which supports the output of Hi-Res audio sources at a maximum of 90 mW. Also, it is equipped with a headphone amp that allows you to listen to high resolution sound with depth even with overhead headphones. The product supports a maximum sampling frequency of 192 kHz and quantization bit rate of up to 24 bits, meaning it’s designed to reproduce high resolution sound in high bandwidth with excellent performance.
The thick housing is processed from a block of aluminum which is least affected by amplifier noise, achieving excellent rigidity as well as high precision. It also features a compact multi-layer circuit board which accommodates both the digital and analog circuits so as to reduce the impact of digital noise to the minimum while achieving high signal-to-noise ratio. At the same time, accurate audio reproduction is achieved as a result of low impedance from the power supply and analog circuits. In addition, the all-digital connection which reduces sound degradation to the minimum realizes the reproduction of highly-delicate sound with little noise or distortion.
In terms of usability, the product is well designed. The new product employs a state-of-the art chip which realizes drastic reduction of power consumption, allowing you to start it up by power supply from a smartphone alone. It is also equipped with a remote control function with a large start/stop button in the center and other operation buttons in a cross-shaped layout, making it quite easy to operate. It comes with a rotating clip which allows you to attach the adapter to whatever you are wearing or carrying at the angle of your liking.
It’s time to casually enjoy Hi-Res sound on your smartphone by connecting this small and yet high-performing headphone adapter.
*In order to enjoy Hi-Res audio, a Hi-Res audio source and Hi-Res player application are separately required. In addition, the EHP-AHR192 series requires Hi-Res headphones.
*Headphones equipped with a remote control are not supported.
*The EHP-AHR series does not come with headphones.
